After scoring eight goals on Tuesday night, the Warriorette offense found themselves in a battle to hit the net as White County High School’s soccer team hosted the York Institue Dragons. It was 2022 when the Warriorettes last beat the Lady Dragons, but their three goals on Thursday night were enough to get the win.
White County led the York 2-0 late in the second half when the Dragons got the ball past keeper Kylie Allen, who had been stifling their attack all night, to pull within one. However, the Warriorettes responded quickly, pushed the ball back down field and found the back of the net a few minutes later to improve the score 3-1.
Once again, the Warriorettes offense spread the ball around, making for a well-rounded attack that led to positive results on the scoreboard. It was a pair of freshman, Makayla Sullivan and Kylee Morton, along with senior Amia Heath who each had a single goal for White County. On defense, senior Katie Blakeman was anchoring the backfield and in her new role this season as she and the Warriorettes’ other defenders worked for 80 minutes to make Allen’s night in the goal a little easier.
“They knocked one in on us late in the second half. The girls fought back and scored again just a few minutes later,” White County head coach Madison mason talked about the final minutes of the game. “Bouncing back like that is huge for tight games! They adjusted well to a physical team.”
The Warriorettes will be back on the road Tuesday evening as they travel to Jackson County for one more out-of-conference game before they meet district opponents Stone Memorial next Thursday night in Crossville.
