The White County High School Warriorettes’ softball team reigned victorious over the undefeated Clay County High School Lady Bulldogs 12-2 on Mar. 30, 2026, at Glenn ‘Buckshot’ Sims Field.
The last time the two teams met, the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Warriorettes 13-1 at Clay County High School.
Mabry Taylor started in the circle for the Warriorettes. After a lead off single, defense worked its magic and got out of the top of the first with no runs, a stark difference from the first game they faced the Lady Bulldogs.
The bats started working early on for the Warriorettes in the bottom of the first. Addison Norvell hit a lead-off single to shortstop then Kylie Norvell followed with a double to right field.
Anna McCulley was hit by a pitch, and Callie Phillips was then walked. Addison Norvell walked in the first run of the game for White County.
In the second inning, both defenses kept the other from scoring. White County held their 1-0 lead on Clay County.
The bottom of the third inning was when the Warriorettes’ bats came alive. After three outs on defense, McCulley led the offense off with a single to left field.
Phillips then doubled on a fly ball to center field, advancing McCulley. McCulley then scored on a pass ball, starting an early theme of capitalizing off of the Lady Bulldogs’ errors.
Annie Burrier then doubled, scoring Blakelyn Cope, pinch runner for Phillips. The momentum continued to grow with Kaylee Sanders singling on a ground ball to short which scored in Addison Howell, who walked.
Burrier then scored on Miah Swindell’s bunt. Sanders, Swindell, and Addison Norvell scored in the final runs of the inning off of back-to-back singles.
After the huge rally, the Warriorettes gained a 8-0 lead on the Lady Bulldogs.
In the top of the fifth, Clay County finally found their rhythm. Taylor had back-to-back strikeouts to start the inning, but Avrie Davis singled on a fly ball to right field.
After two walks, Baylor Walden singled on a line drive to left field that scored in their only two runs of the game.
White County did not let the two runs stop them. Kylie Norvell started the bottom of the fifth with a single. McCulley then reached on an error by shortstop.
Phillips and Howell were walked back-to-back, which scored one run. Burrier hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field that scored in McCulley.
White County continued to extend the gap 10-2 in the fifth. Both Abbie Hutson and Addison Norvell singled to start the bottom of the sixth.
Kylie Norvell followed by being walked to load the bases. McCulley hit a double to end the game in a run-rule.
Head coach Jerry Roberts said, “Best all around game we have played all year: 16 hits, pitching was spot on, and defense was outstanding. The team is just now starting to turn the corner.”
Howell added, “After a tough loss the first time we played them, it definitely felt nice playing how we should have in the beginning.”
Phillips led the batting average for the Warriorettes with a 1.000. She hit a double and had one RBI.
Addison Norvell followed by going 4 for 5, batted a 0.800, and scored in one. McCulley, Kylie Norvell, and Burrier all had two RBIs.
Taylor finished in the circle with four strikeouts and an era of 2.33 in six innings.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Walden, Davis, and Lila Birdwell all had a batting average of 0.500. Walden had two RBIs. In the circle, Walden recorded one strikeout, and Rylee Baxter had four.
The White County High School Warriorettes will play at Glenn ‘Buckshot’ Sims Field again on April 6th against the Dekalb County Tigerettes.
