Warriorettes stay undefeated, pick up first district win

The White County High School girls' soccer team couldn’t ask for much better of a start to a season than they’ve had throughout the month of August. Over four games, the Warriorettes have come away with three wins and a tie, including Thursday’s win over district opponent Stone Memorial.

After starting the season with a pair of lopsided wins, the Warriorettes had their offense stalled on Tuesday night. However, the White County defense was solid and did their job and kept Jackson County from pushing the ball past keeper Kylie Allen resulting in a scoreless game for both teams.

“We had plenty of opportunities and shots, we just need to execute when given the chance,” White County head coach Madison Mason said, then credited sophomore Anna Joliff for stepping up and controlling the midfield and putting pressure Jackson County. “It was a good battle in the second half, and I feel like we controlled the pace of the game after halftime.”

On Thursday, the Warriorettes travelled to Crossville to face a team they haven’t outscored in more than a decade: the Stone Memorial Lady Panthers.

White County put the pressure on Stone Memorial right away with Katie Blakeman finessing a penalty kick past the Panther keeper to give the Warriorettes the early lead. Makayla Sullivan added an insurance goal later in the game, making sure White County held the lead from start to finish on Thursday night.

It was freshman Kady Brymer who put on a show in the goal for the Warriorettes, letting just one ball slip past her.

“We had a great performance from Kady tonight,” Mason praised White County’s backup keeper. “She had a lot of crucial saves for us.”

The 2-1 win was the first time White County has topped Stone memorial since the 2014 season and was a great start to district play for the Warriorettes, who hope to do more than just make an appearance in the postseason tournament this year.

“Everybody stepped up to help us secure our first district win of the season,” Mason said. “It was a really good whole team win.”

The Warriorettes will play their second of six district games when they host Cumberland County on Tuesday night.
