After getting a great opening night win last Thursday, the Warriors split their early week games to move their record to 2-1 as they headed into the Thanksgiving break.
On Nov. 24, the Warriors defeated the DeKalb County Tigers by a score of 58-44. It was forward Tucker Pinion leading the way with 23 points. Pinion was followed by Cole Sims who netted another 15 while Jack Carpenter added 12 more to the White County total. Lukas Smith shot just 2-for-6 to add four points to the scoreboard while Davion Beard sank the only shot he took – one from beyond the arc to add three more to the Warriors scoreboard. Rounding out White County’s scoring was Mason Steele who added one two-point basket and Kolt Norris who sank one of his two free throws.
Good news for White County is that the Warriors are playing a clean game so far this season. In Monday’s game, only Sims and Steele had more than one foul with the pair being whistled three times each. The rest of the team combined for just four fouls total.
It was a different story, on Nov. 25, as the Warriors suffered their first defeat of the young season, a 61-43 loss to the Warren County Pioneers. White County started out strong, taking a 27-16 lead into the locker room at halftime, but it was all Warren County after the break. By the end of the third quarter, the Warriors trailed by four having been outscored 20 – 5 in the eight-minute period. The fourth quarter saw the Pioneers out score White County 25 – 11 as the Warriors couldn’t get anything going offensively and had no answer defensively for the Warren County onslaught.
It was Cole Sims who led Warriors in scoring as the junior point guard scored 17 points for White County. Sims scored 10 from the field and went 7-for-8 from the free throw line – something head coach Eric Mitchell stressed was a focus for the Warriors over the summer. Tucker Pinion, who also shot well from the line going 5-for-6, added 12 to White County’s side of the scoreboard. Only two other Warriors found the basket, with Jack Carpenter scoring eight and Lukas Smith adding another six.
