White County High School flag football team dominates early season with third straight win

The White County High School flag football team is off to a remarkable start in their second-ever season. With a commanding 21-7 victory over the Van Buren County Eagles, on Tuesday, the Warriors have secured their third consecutive win, starting their season with a record of 3-0.

Leading the charge was senior CallieAnna Griggs, who delivered an outstanding performance by rushing for 176 yards and scoring two touchdowns on just 14 carries. Her longest run of the game, an electrifying 75-yard sprint, helped to earn her the title of Player of the Game for the second time this season. Kennedy Billings-Sullivan scored the Warriorettes other touchdown on the night. Griggs has already committed to play flag football at Cumberland University next season, and Billings-Sullivan, another senior, received an offer just this week.

The Warriors’ defense was equally dominating, with senior Breanna Powell intercepting two passes during the game. Along with her two interceptions, Powell was credited with a pair of tackles. Anita Hartawan led the team with tackles, pulling four flags, while freshman Sarah Winfree pulled three.

White County has consistently demonstrated their offensive capabilities, averaging 28 points per game this season. The team’s ability to convert plays into points has been pivotal in their successful start, and their balance between offense and defense proves that they are poised to make a run for a championship as flag football is an official TSSAA sport this season.

In contrast, Van Buren County faced challenges, marking their second consecutive loss and dropping their record to 3-2.
