The White County High School girls’ soccer team traveled to Cumberland County over the weekend. The Warriorettes were one of six teams competing in the Chronicle Cup – a preseason playday for the girls. The Warriorettes went 2-1 on the day, coming up just one goal short in the Championship Match. The second-place finish was hard earned and put some teams on notice that the Warriorettes, who were expected to finish in one of the bottom two spots, have been putting the work in this summer.
“It was a great way to open the season,” Warriorette head coach Madison Mason said, adding that her goal is to improve the image of the soccer team throughout the community. “We have a lot of talent, and I believe we have the opportunity to be a dangerous team this season.”
Following the weekend playday, the Warriorettes hosted one final preseason game, on Monday night. The White County team came away with a 7-0 victory to keep the momentum headed in their direction. In Monday night’s game, the Warriorettes got a comfortable 4-0 lead and then started rotating their roster around. The lead let senior Katelyn Blakeman come out of the backfield and move up front where she had a lot of success over the first three seasons and she promptly netted two more goals for White County.
Along with Blakeman’s two goals, Makayla Sullivan found the back of the net three times. Adding to the scoring were Miya League, Anna Joliff, and Kylee Morton who put one goal each on White County’s side of the scoreboard.
The Warriorettes will officially open the season on the road, on Aug. 19, when they travel to Bledsoe County and will play their home opener two days later when they host York.
