WCHS Warrior baseball drops second straight game

Posted

After winning four straight games, the White County High School baseball team find themselves on a small slide. The Warriors, who lost the home half of a two-game series with the Cumberland County Jets, on Tuesday, found themselves on the losing end of a 2-0 score, on Wednesday, when it was the Jets’ turn to host.

The Warriors, who have now dropped their last eight games against the Jets, out-hit Cumberland County, but it wasn’t enough. White County managed just two hits – a single each by Griffin Adams and Kolt Norris. The Warriors had a couple of other scoring opportunities with runners on the bases. Adams reached by way of a walk, Austin Pionke was hit by a pitch, and Cole Gentry reached first by way of a fielder’s choice. Additionally, the Jets had a fielding error. But none of it was enough to push a runner across home plate, and White County left seven runners on base throughout the seven innings.

Adams and Cole Gentry each pitched three innings, with Gentry taking the loss. Gentry threw 40 pitches, giving up a walk and a run, while striking out three. Adams threw 44 pitches, walking two, giving up a hit and a run, but striking out four of the 11 batters he faced.

The loss dropped the Warriors’ record to 8-10 on the season.
