The White County High School baseball team hosted the Upperman Bees, on March 24, but ended up on the wrong side of a 5-1 scoreboard after seven innings.
The Bees jumped out in the first inning, putting a single run on the board. The Warriors, despite not getting their offense going, kept things close by not allowing another run until the third inning. Upperman stretched their lead to four in the fourth inning before the Warriors got their run in the bottom of the fifth. With no 10-run lead, the game went a full seven innings, with the Bees putting up another run, that the Warriors couldn’t answer, in their final at bat.
The Warriors’ single run, which was scored by Gage Walker who also got his first hit, a triple, of the season, was the least offense they had put up this season. Cole Gentry, who singled to get Walker across the plate, Kolt Norris, Kason Seal, and Austin Pionke all recorded hits. Unfortunately for White County, they also struck out 11 times, while just drawing one walk.
Trenton Wilson stayed on the mound for the full seven innings for the Warriors, taking the loss as he gave up all five runs on seven hits. Wilson struck out three batters while walking just two.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, the March 25 game didn’t get better. In fact, White County’s season low, one-run game became history as they failed to get any runs on the board. This time, the game was played in Baxter, with Upperman being the home team.
The Bees got off to another early start, this time putting four runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning. In fact, Upperman would out four runs on the board in the bottom of each of the first three innings, quickly running the score up to 12-0, which is how the game would end an inning and half later.
White County has been struggling recently, losing four of their last five games and dropping their record to 3-7 on the season.
