The White County High School Warriors finished up their spring break at the beach, but unfortunately it wasn’t the way they would have liked. The Warriors took another loss, this time at the hands of the St. Michael Catholic Cardinals.
The Warriors got on the board first, putting up a run in the top of the first inning, but the Cardinals responded with a run of their own. White County couldn’t make it around the basepaths in the second inning, but the same wasn’t true for St. Michael. The Cardinals crossed home plate three times to take a 4-1 lead.
In the top of the third inning, the Warriors looked like they were going to challenge the Cardinals when they came out swinging, got base runners moving, and cut the Cardinals lead to just one run. But that was the end of the scoring for White County who put zeros on the scoreboard for the rest of the game. The rest of the game just lasted two more innings as the Cardinals scored five in their half of the third and then two each in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to make the score 13-3 and end the game with the ten-run-mercy rule after just five innings.
Kaden Siebers, Gage Walker, Cole Gentry, and Kason Seal were the only Warriors to record hits in the game, each collecting a single. Gentry had two RBIs while Eli Smith had a sacrifice fly to drive in White County’s other run. Austin Pionke was hit by a pitch while Siebers, Walker, and Griffin Adams drew one walk each.
On the mound, Will Thomas took the loss pitching just one inning and giving up three runs, all earned, on three hits. Smith, Seibers, Gentry, and Matthew Wilson each spent time on the mound as well with Smith giving up four runs, Seibers five, and Wilson giving up one.
