The White County High School baseball team has been in a slump over the past couple of weeks, and April 15 was more of the same. The Warriors lost to the Livingston Academy Wildcats by a score of 12-5.
The Warriors took the early lead, going up 3-1 after one inning, and it looked like things might be headed up for White County. The Wildcats scored one run in each in the second and third innings to even the score before the Warriors batted for the third time. White County responded by scoring a single run in their half of the third to keep the narrowest of leads. However, Livingston scored three more runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-4 lead. The Warriors managed to scrape together another run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Wildcats put six more runs on the board in the top of the seventh to take the win.
Six different White County batters recorded a hit with Cole Gentry hitting a pair of doubles as he went 2-for-3 while Austin Pionke had three solid hits. Griffin Adams, Eli Smith, Matthew Wilson, and Kason Seal were the other Warriors who each recorded a hit during the game.
Pionke and Gentry were hot on the basepaths as well as at the plate. Pionke stole three bases while Gentry stole two, and they each scored two runs.
Gentry took the loss as he gave up five hits and three runs during his two innings on the mound. Adams and Pionke also spent time pitching with Adams giving up three runs while Pionke had an unearned run score while he was on the mound. Henry Usrey, who gave up four hits and five runs, was the other Warrior pitcher.
The loss dropped White County’s record to 8 wins and 13 losses.
