WCHS Warriorette softball team falls to DeKalb County

Posted

White County High School softball bats were fairly quiet, on Aprilk 1, when they fell 7-1 to the Dekalb County Lady Tigers despite playing at home.

Neither team had a lot going on offensively early in the game, and, after three innings, the Lady Tigers were clinging to a 1-0 lead. In the top of the fourth inning, DeKalb County broke the game open scoring five runs, and, after adding one more in the sixth, found themselves on top of a 7-0 lead. The Warriorettes’ lone run came in the bottom of the sixth when Hannah Poteet, who had reached on a hard hit double, scored on a single by Addison Howell.

The Warriorettes only strung together five total hits, with Poteet’s double being the only one for extra bases. White County struggled to see the ball coming in from DeKalb pitcher Kora Kilgore. Kilgore walked just one batter while striking out 16.

Along with Poteet and Howard, Kylie Norvell, Abigail Schalk, and Callie Phillips each recorded a single hit, while Miah Jo Swindell drew White County’s only base on balls.

Mabry Taylor was back in the circle for the Warriorettes giving up 11 hits and walking three while striking out six. Taylor took the loss, although only four of the Lady Tigers runs were credited to her. The remaining three runs were unearned and the result of White County’s three fielding errors on the night.
