White County High School Warrior basketball cruised to their second straight victory to improve to 4-1, on Dec. 4. The Warriors hosted York Institute and, despite a slow start, didn’t leave much doubt about their improved offense this season.
The Dragons grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the first quarter and clung to that for the first four minutes. Despite York adding to their lead, the Warriors stayed within striking distance thanks to Jack Carpenter, who had five steals, a block, and a pair of defensive rebounds in the first quarter alone. Carpenter added a three-point shot, and then Tucker Pinion hit a pair of threes – including one at the buzzer – to help White County take a 15-12 lead into the second quarter.
York regained the lead and pushed it to a five-point advantage by the mid-point of the next quarter. But it was Carpenter again keeping the Warriors close on the scoreboard as he hit a deep three-pointer to cut White County’s deficit to two. The lead bounced back and forth across the scoreboard over the next four minutes with the scoreboard favoring the Warriors 48-43 at the end of the period.
The fourth quarter saw White County’s offense keep the scoreboard lit up as they scored 13 points while holding the Dragons to just eight.
It was Carpenter who led the Warriors in scoring as he sank six three-pointers for 18 points. Lukas Smith was responsible for 13 of White County’s points, while Cole Smith added 12, and Mason Steele tacked on another 11. Pinion added eight points to the Warriors’ total, while Mason Steele rounded out White County’s scoring with five points.
The win moves the Warriors to 4-1 two weeks into the 2025-26 season.
