WCMS baseball team takes both games in doubleheader

The White County Middle School baseball team continued their strong season with two big wins in a doubleheader against Cumberland County last Tuesday. The Warriors showcased solid pitching and timely hitting to earn a 6-0 win in the first game and a commanding 13-2 victory in the second.

In the first game, standout performances from Clay Brewington and Riley Howell helped seal the deal. Brewington pitched two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four. Howell pitched three innings, giving up three hits while striking out six. Offensively, Clay Brewington led the Warriors with two hits, including a double and an RBI, while Evan Nicholas contributed a hit and two RBIs. Mason Seibers also added a hit, a double, and an RBI while Haskell Simmons collected the Warriors’ other hit and RBI.

The second game saw the Warriors’ offense explode. Ryder Staggs had two hits, one of them a double, and was responsible for two runs batted in. Simmons had a pair of hits and was responsible for one RBI. Brewington hit another double and drove in three runs. Brennan Burchett and Riley Howell rounded out the hitting for White County with them each getting a base hit.

Burchett earned the win on the mound, pitching three innings and striking out eight batters. Brewington finished up the game as he struck out two batters and gave up just one hit in his one inning on the mound.

With these wins, the Warriors improved their season record to 12-7 overall and 8-6 in conference play. They are currently seeded fourth in the upcoming tournament, aiming to make a deep postseason run.
