The White County Middle School Warriors moved to 2-0 in district play when they came home with a big 26-8 win over Stone Memorial on Thursday night. The win came after a disappointing 30-point loss last week at Fentress County, a non-division opponent.
“It was a much better night for us. We came into the game wanting to establish our running game, and we did just that,” Warrior head coach Aaron Brown said after the game.
“He and the offensive line did a great job of running our scheme and making the defense play on their heels all night,” Brown said. “We controlled the line of scrimmage and pretty much ran at will.”
Defensively, there were some new faces on the field for White County. Injuries forced the Warriors to have some different players out there Thursday night.
“We put a little more speed on the field to take advantage of some things we saw on film,” Brown said that the change in the defensive lineup wasn’t completely due to injury, but rather due to wanting to play against the Panther’s scheme. “We had some miscommunication moments, but, overall, the defense did really well and made it difficult for them to get any sort of rhythm going.”
The Warriors, who are now 3-2 overall, have played on the road for three straight weeks but will finish the season at home with two division matchups, first against Dekalb County and then Cumberland County. Division playoffs begin on September 25.
