White County Middle School softball swept Avery Trace in a doubleheader this past week to improve to 8-2 on the season and 6-1 in district play.

Game one got started with a pair of scoreless innings by both teams, but Jordan Wright led off the third inning for the Warriorettes with a single and a stolen base. Abbi Hutson drew a walk, and A.K. Wallace blasted a single to the outfield that scored both Wright and Hutson. Annie Burrier followed up with another single, and then Addison Norvell hit a base-clearing triple. Norvell finished up the scoring for the inning when she came home on an error by the Avery Trace catcher.

The fourth inning started with Alli Beth Stebing and Blakely Cope drawing a walk and then scoring as a result of errors from Avery Trace.  The Warriorettes added two more runs in the top of the fifth with Norvell recording her second hit of the day and another stolen base.  Binca Villano ripped her 2nd triple of the season and scored on an RBI hit from Treeah Powell.

It was Burrier in the circle, and she went the distance with 10 strikeouts, 3 bases on balls, while giving up just one hit.

The second game of the doubleheader started off much differently with the Warriorettes scoring 10 runs in the first inning. Hutson drew her third walk of the day and another hard-hit ball by Wallace set up a 3-RBI triple for Norvell.  Powell followed that with a walk, and then Jordan Wright ripped a 2-RBI double to give the Warriorettes their sixth run of the inning.  Stebing followed with a triple of her own to expand the lead.

Powell led off the second inning with a base hit followed by another Stebing hit.  Hutson then notched a base hit and Wallce hit a shot to the fence to break the game wide open.  Norvell and Wright added two more big hits to force the mercy rule to end the game after just three innings.

Alli Beth Stebing started the game in the circle for White County, and Kambrie Tayes came in the second inning and did a great job shutting down Avery Trace.   The young 6th grader recorded a couple of strikeouts in a short amount of time.

“I’m extremely proud of these girls.  They don’t play down to their competition,” White County head coach Gregg Segraves said. “We made some mistakes but played consistently all night.”
