The White County Middle School Warriorettes advanced to the winners’ bracket in the AA area 10 District Tournament with a 4-0 win over DeKalb County behind the excellent pitching from Annie Burrier coupled with an outstanding defense.

With two outs in the bottom of the second, Alli Beth Stebing smoked a ball into the right center gap to record an inside the park home run and put the Warriorettes up 1-0. Jordan Wright followed with a hard hit single and then stole second base. Treeah Powell then ripped a line drive double to score Wright and just like that, White County was up 2-0.

A.K. Wallace led off the third inning with a scorching triple, and Burrier followed with a deep sacrifice fly ball that put the Warriorettes up by three runs. With two outs, Addie Finley drew a walk and courtesy runner Dreu Segraves stole second base and then advanced to third on a throwing error. Another throwing error followed and Segraves crossed the plate for White County’s fourth and final run of the game.

The Saints threatened in the fifth inning when they advanced runners to second and third, but a hard shot off Burrier’s ankle was fielded by Powell who and gunned down the batter at first. Powell’s quick play resulted in the final out of the game.

“We played great defense. Jordan Wright made a diving catch earlier in the game and that play by Treeah was huge. Annie Burrier threw another complete scoreless game with eight strikeouts, bringing her strike outs to 98 on the season. We’re two away from reaching our second goal, tournament champs, but may have to do that without Annie who took a shot off the ankle on the last play,” White County head coach Gregg Segraves said. “We have to have the mentality of next person up. We’ve got to hit the ball and play superb defense no matter who pitches.”
