The White County Middle School Warriorettes were on the road, on March 27, but still managed to extend their district record to 5-0 when they defeated Prescott 4-3.

Both White County and Prescott battled to a stalemate for the first two innings, with neither team able to get a runner across the plate. But, in the third inning, the Warriorettes broke through. The inning started with Bianca Villano getting a base hit. Abbi Hutson laid down a bunt intending to sacrifice herself in order to move Villano into scoring position. However, Hutson was able to beat the ball down the line and was credited with a base hit. Annie Burrier drove Villano in getting the Warriorettes on the board. Before the inning was over, Adison Norvell bunted for a base hit and in the process scored Hutson. White County took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning.

Bella Rosell-Diaz started the fourth inning off with a walk and was replaced with a pinch runner. Alli Beth Stebing quickly proved why as she stole second and then scored when Villa got her second hit of the day putting White County up 3-0.

The Warriorettes added to their lead in the fifth inning. Burrier led off with a base hit and was replaced by Dreu Segraves on the basepaths. Norvell laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt to move Segraves to second where she was able to score when Addison Finley followed up with a base hit.

Prescott chipped away at the Warriorettes 4-run lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. A couple of a base hits and a loaded the bases. After a double and an error by White County, the Warriorettes found their lead cut to one with the tying run standing on third base. Burrier, who recorded eight strikeouts, finished Prescott’s clean-up batter with a K, and the score remained 4-3.

Burrier had a great night in the circle, striking out eight while walking just one. She gave up just two earned runs on four hits to improve her record to 4-0 on the season.

“I thought our girls kept their composure through the end,” Warriorette coach Gregg Segraves said. “Our girls executed the bunt to perfection tonight and that was the difference in the game.  We faced a good pitcher and put pressure on her by putting it in play.  I’m proud of these girls and the fact that they are playing as a team.”
