WCMS Tennis picks up wins in first match of the season

Both the boys and girls White County Middle School tennis teams picked up wins in the season opener. The Warriors hosted the team from Algood Middle school and came away with wins in singles and doubles. 

The girls lead with a strong 4 games to 1 win while the boys scraped out a 3-2 victory. Lella Whorton picked up a 6-0 win, Mia Cantrell got the 6-1 win, and Alexis Griffin outlasted her opponent 8-6 after winning her first tie break 7-5. On the boys’ side it was Micah Wiles (6-1), Colton Ballew (6-0), and Henry Zuber (6-1) putting the Warriors in the win column. 

In addition, the girls team of Lella Whorton and Mila Cantrell took a 6-3 win in doubles while Liz Hice and Cami Moore picked up the 6-2 win for the Warriorettes doubles teams to go undefeated on opening night. For the boys, it was Ballew and Zuber who teamed up to get a 6-4 doubles win. 

“We are proud of our Warriors and Warriorettes,” coach Topher Wiles said. 

White County Middle School tennis teams will be back in action on Thursday, August 21, as they face a combined team of Cumberland County middle schools in a match to be played at Stone Memorial High School in Crossville.
