The White County Middle School Warriorettes had an impressive week on the basketball court to start their 2024 season. Their hard work and strategic play were evident as they notched two victories against Warren County and Allons to finish undefeated after the first official week of play.
On Oct. 21, the Warriorettes faced off against the Warren County Lady Pioneers. The game started off slowly for White County, as they managed only 7 points in the first quarter and 5 in the second, much less than they are used to putting up. However, the team made a powerful statement in the second half, scoring 25 points to secure a decisive 37-17 victory. The scoring was led by Taylor Hensley, who netted 9 points, followed closely by Kenly Frazier with 8 points, and Mallori Swindell contributing 7. Elin McDonald, Olivia Revange, Lenzie Golden, and Treeah Powell also made crucial contributions, each adding to the scoreboard.
“Not a great first half, but they turned it on in the second half,” Warriorette head coach Marsha Jackson said, reflecting on the game, noting the team’s ability to turn things around after a challenging first half. “We ended the game with 19 rebounds and shot the ball well after halftime.”
Just a few days later, on Oct. 24, the Warriorettes continued their winning streak against Allons, walking away with a 45-34 victory. The team started strong, amassing 27 points in the first half, while holding Allons to 16. In the second half, the Warriorettes maintained their advantage, adding 18 points to their tally. Taylor Hensley once again led the scoring, contributing 16 points, while Mallori Swindell added 10. Elin McDonald, Harper Broyles, Lenzi Golden, Olivia Revange, and Kenly Frazier all played vital roles in the team’s success.
“It was a hard-fought game,” Jackson said, and noted that a focus on defense combined with effective shooting proved to be the winning formula for the Warriorettes. “We were shooting 55 percent from the 2-point range, and we played great defense in the fourth quarter to hold onto the win.”
