The White County Middle School softball team defeated Algood 13-3, on March 25, to improve their district record to a perfect four wins.
The Warriorettes were down 1-0 going into the bottom of the first, but they answered quickly. A.K. Wallace got the inning started by being hit by a pitch followed up by a base hit from Annie Burrier and another free pass as Addison Norvell was hit by a pitch. Treeah Powell drove in a run with a single to left field making the score 2-1 with 2 outs and 2 runners on base. Jordan Wright then followed with a 3 RBI, inside the park homerun as the Warriorettes finished the first inning up 5-1.
The second inning was more of the same for White County. Alli Beth Stebing, got the Warriorettes started with a single, followed by another single by Abbi Hutson. Wallace and Burrier then ripped back-to-back doubles to make the score 9-3.
Defensively, the Warriorettes tightened up in the 3rd inning with Treeah Powell throwing out a girl at second base for the third time this year. Blakelyn Cope then led off the bottom of the third inning with a base hit and Hutson followed with a base on balls. Wallace executed a fake bunt hit and run to score Cope, and Burrier got her second double of the night. Norvell finished the game with a base hit RBI to force the 10-run rule and end the game after just 3 innings of play.
Stebing was the winning pitcher, facing 16 batters, striking out 1 while giving up just 3 hits.
“I thought our girls played to their level and not the level of their competition,” Warriorette coach Gregg Segraves said after the game. “We’ve got to clean up some things on defense, but, if we keep hitting the ball like that, we will be very competitive. Our baserunning still needs to improve, but we were much more aggressive tonight.”
