The White County Middle School football team picked up another win on Thursday night to improve their record to 2-1 on the season. The Warriors traveled to Prescott, their first district opponent of the year, and came home with an 18-0 win.
White County started slow, only getting the ball twice on offense during the first two quarters of the game. The Warrior defense, though struggling, managed to keep them in the game, holding the Bulldogs scoreless.
“For whatever reason we just came out and forgot how to do some of the most basic things we work on - as basic as going right and left,” White County coach Aaron Brown said. “They were doing some things that confused us a bit and managed to eat a lot of clock in the first half.”
Brown said that the Warriors made some adjustments at half time, as well as correcting some miscommunication issues, and came out in the second half and performed much better as a team.
During the second half, White County put the ball in the end zone three times, as well as having a fourth touchdown called back due to a penalty. Quarterback Jack Dicus kept the ball for one score, and ball carrier Tate Pinion found his way across the goal line twice.
The Warrior defense stepped up and shut down anything the Bulldogs tried to get going, resulting in Prescott ending the night in the negative when it came to yards gained.
“We came out and didn’t play our best at the start,” Brown said. “It was a much better second half.”
The Warriors will be on the road again next week as they travel to Fentress County to play the last of their non-district games for the year. They will follow that up in Crossville against Stone Memorial on September 4, before finishing the regular season up with a two-game home stand.
