FFA participates in Beef Backers event

On July 11, the White County FFA chapter teamed up with the Young Farmers and Ranchers and Farm Bureau organizations to host their annual Beef Backers event.

With July being Beef Month in the state of Tennessee, YF&R tasked members with the challenge of creating events that encourage people to celebrate and eat local beef. In the past, the local groups in White County have completed this challenge by setting up at the Freedom Celebration to give out beef samples and share information about local beef producers. Other years, they set up in front of grocery stores to hand out hamburgers to passing customers while sharing beef knowledge. This year, when tasked with this event, the team brainstormed ideas of how they could serve the community in an even better way.

Recently, the annual White County Beef Backers event was held at the fairgrounds during this month’s UCHRA commodities distribution. This commodity distribution provides the low-income residents of White County with safe and non-perishable food. During this food pickup, members of FFA, Farm Bureau, and YF&R handed out steak biscuits to each of the cars in line. Members also encouraged people to take pictures of affordable beef recipes, so that everyone has the chance to enjoy Tennessee Beef Month.

White County FFA, Farm Bureau, and YF&R would like to thank sponsors and supporters of the Beef Backers event such as UT Extension, the Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association, and North Sparta Church of God who donated giveaway items and space that allowed the members to prepare for this event.
