White County finishes ahead curve in graduation rate data

The Tennessee Department of Education has released graduation rate data for the state, and the state has broken its record, while White County has remained ahead of the curve. The state graduation rate broke its record by landing at 92.3%.

Lizzette Reynolds, the Tennessee Commissioner of Education, said, “Year-over-year gains in the statewide graduation rate exemplify Tennessee’s commitment to ensuring students across the state make it to the graduation stage prepared for success after high school. Districts’ schools and public charters will continue using proven best practices and working with families to support students as they embark on their future endeavors.”

While White County was not in the top nine districts, the few that had rates over 99%, the county is sitting just behind them at 98.5%. This is a large jump from the federal graduation rate released from the 2023-2024 graduation year, which was at 93.1%.

Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger was proud of the results, saying, “A high graduation rate is a testament to collective dedication. While students and families deserve significant praise, this success is truly a district-wide achievement, extending to the talented professionals within our schools. It is the culmination of a rigorous academic program, paired with clear, high expectations for both attendance and behavior, that leads to these successful outcomes. Our consistently strong graduation rate beautifully illustrates the hard work and dedication that define White County Schools, underscoring our commitment to excellence and high expectations for every student.”

The graduation rates are viewable on TDOE’s website at tn.gov/education. Under “Data & Research” will be a downloads section with the graduation rates accessible.
