WCHS FFA competes in individual speaking LDEs

Posted

On Jan. 18, 2024, four members of the White County High School FFA Chapter took part in the district speaking competition. These four students put in many hours of practicing and effort to perfect their skills for their designated competition. These students then traveled to Cookeville High School to put their skills to the test.

Isabella Sackett competed in the Extemporaneous Speaking competition where she was challenged to get a topic, research and create a speech all under 30 minutes. Addie King competed in the Prepared Public Speaking competition where she memorized a six-minute speech over an agricultural topic and presented it to the judges. Alivia Hart experienced the Employment Skills competition, a mock job interview in which she created a resume and cover letter to help her compete to get an “internship.” Lastly, Katie Eller competed in creed speaking which is a competition designed for freshmen to learn and recite the FFA Creed to a panel of judges and emphasize what it means to the individual.

All of these girls performed well at this competition, with Isabella placing first, Addie and Katie both placing second, and Alivia in the top five. Isabella, Addie, and Katie all advanced to the sectional level at Lebanon High School the following Tuesday.

Sectionals for these FFA members took place Jan. 23, 2024. At sectionals, the students got to interact with other chapters in the northern section and also compete in a higher level of competition. This was a great learning experience for all of the girls that allowed them to improve.

As always, the White County FFA Chapter thanks the community for the support as they build the next generation of leaders.
