The White County High School Warriorettes faced a challenging weekend at the Hixson Tournament, ending their weekend with a record of 2-4 overall after a tough start in pool play.
During the initial rounds on March 21, the Warriorettes struggled against formidable opponents, suffering losses to Hixson, Portland, and Gibbs. Despite finishing 0-3 in pool play, the Warriorettes rallied in bracket play the following day.
In their first bracket game, White County dominated the Cookeville Lady Cavaliers with a resounding 16-2 win. The Warriorettes’ offense was on fire, scoring 16 runs off just 8 hits and capitalizing on 8 walks. Callie Phillips led the charge with an impressive 3 hits and 6 RBIs, while Anna McCulley contributed significantly with 3 hits and 4 RBIs. Kylie Norvell also shined, adding 2 hits and a walk to the mix. Mabrey Taylor pitched a solid 4 innings, allowing only 2 runs and striking out 2 batters.
The momentum continued as White County faced Wartburg, securing a 3-1 win. The Warriorettes scored 3 runs on 4 hits while drawing 5 walks. Kylie Norvell was a standout player again, hitting a triple and scoring 2 runs, while Maddie Rust brought in 2 RBIs. Taylor remained a key player in the circle, pitching 6 innings, giving up just 1 run and striking out 4.
Unfortunately, the Warriorettes’ run in the tournament came to an end in the Silver Bracket semi-final against Boyd-Buchanan, where they fell 11-2. In a tough matchup, the team managed to score 2 runs on 7 hits but could not overcome Boyd-Buchanan’s offensive onslaught. Kylie Norvell continued to shine, hitting a home run and a triple, scoring both of White County’s runs. Taylor was once again in the circle but this time she was not as dominant as her two previous outings. She allowed 11 runs (1 unearned), and the Warriorettes could not find their footing against a relentless Boyd-Buchanan team. Despite the loss, their two earlier wins put them in a position to finish in fourth place in the tournament’s Silver Bracket.
