The White County High School Warriorettes kicked off their week by ending a six-game losing streak with a commanding 6-3 victory over the Monterey Wildcats, on April 14, and then followed that up with a dominating 16-0 win in Cumberland County the next night.
In the first game of the week, Mabry Taylor was in the circle, pitching all seven innings and allowing just three earned runs on four hits – the first she’s given up all season, while striking out seven batters.
At the plate, Anna McCulley delivered an outstanding performance, scoring two runs and going 3-for-4, which included a career-high two doubles. Hannah Poteet also made significant contributions to the Warriorettes’ side of the scoreboard, scoring two runs with a 2-for-4 batting line. The Warriorettes proved their offensive power, finishing the game with a total of 11 hits compared to Monterey’s four.
White County set the tone early, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding another in the third. Although Monterey managed to get on the board with a single run in the top of the third, the Warriorettes responded with three runs in their half of the same inning. Despite a late rally attempt from the Wildcats in the sixth, which yielded two more runs, the Warriorettes comfortably secured the 6-3 victory.
On April 15, the Warriorettes easily defeated the Cumberland County Jets by a score of 16-0 in five innings. White County put three runs on the board in the top of the first inning, but then it was a stalemate for the next three innings. The Warriorettes had a huge 13-run fifth inning to push the game past the 10-run mercy rule. When the Lady Jets couldn’t respond in the bottom of the fifth, White County left with the big win.
Miah Jo Swindell, Kami Clark, Kaylee Sanders, Anna McCulley, and Callie Phillips each had three hits while Maddie Rust and Hannah Poteet had two apiece. Abigail Schalk and Addison Howell each added a hit to the Warriorettes total. Schalk and McCulley accounted for six, three apiece, of the Warriorettes RBIs.
It was Mabry Taylor in the circle again for White County as she threw a one-hitter. Taylor faced 16 batters, striking out ten.
The Warriorettes are 4-3 in the district to find themselves currently sitting in third place behind the 6-1 Dekalb County Tigers and the 6-2 Stone Memorial Panthers.
