The WCMS Warriorettes improved their season record to 6-1 with a 12-1 non-district win over Monterey.

A.K. Wallace and Addison Norvell got things going with two hard hits to start the game. Addison Finley followed up with an RBI hit, and then Treeah Powell drove in Norvell. Bianca Villano stepped up with a big two-out hit that drove in another run and put White County up 3-0 at the end of the first inning.

The second inning started with Blakelyn Cope and Abbi Hutson drawing back-to-back walks. Norvelle followed up with a single to load the bases. With two outs, Finley lasered a bases clearing single to collect three RBIs. Powell drew a walk and Villano got her second RBI base hit of the night to extend the Warriorettes lead to 7-0.

After a couple of scoreless innings, the Warriorettes bats got hot again, and they added five more runs to the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning. Powell led off the inning with a hard-hit ball that the Monterey third baseman couldn’t handle. Jordan Wright ripped a single that scored Powell. Alli Beth Stebing singled to get on base and then Blakelyn Cope hit a hard shot to center field that scored Wright. Wallace finished the damage with a rip to third base that scored the last two runs and pushed the Warriorettes side of the scoreboard to 12.

Stebing got the win in the circle pitching three innings and giving up just one run on three hits while she stuck out three batters. Kambrie Tayes pitched the fourth and fifth innings, getting the save in her first official varsity action.

“I thought both girls threw really well today. Alli Beth was throwing well, but I wanted to get Kambrie some varsity innings, and I thought she came in and did a great job for her varsity pitching debut,” Warriorette coach Gregg Segraves said after the game. “The girls are playing well together and if one girl is off, another steps up and picks up the slack. It’s been good team ball, and the girls are learning to play for each other and not be selfish.”
