Anderson is new administrator of elections for White County

Sherry Anderson has taken over as White County Administrator of Elections. She replaces Dorcas Marcum who retired in June after serving as a certified Administrator of Elections since June of 2011.

Anderson will receive training online in the coming months before taking the State Certified Administrator of Elections Test. She was hired by the White County Election Commission.

Anderson is a life-long resident of White County and has resided around the Cole’s Chapel area almost the entire time. She graduated from White County High School, in 1990. She worked for the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office for almost 24 years. She volunteered at the Northfield Elementary polling location during the last few elections and enjoyed it. That experience led to her applying for the administrator position when Marcum announced she was retiring.

Anderson has been married to her husband, Derrick, for 30 years. They have three children and two grandchildren. Anderson attends Hampton’s Crossroads Baptist Church. She enjoys spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Anderson, as Administrator of Elections, will oversee and organize all matters related to any election held in White County. The Elections Administrator should verify candidates qualifying for an election. The Elections Administrator conducts the elections and tallies the votes before preparing the public announcement of the election outcome. The Elections Administrator is also responsible for maintaining voter registration records and voting histories for each voter. It is also the Elections Administrator’s responsibility to disclose any campaign financials that may be requested.

The Administrator also:

• Supervises all office personnel.
• Prepares the annual operating budget and submission of same to the election commission for approval.
• Presents the annual budget to the county commission or other legislative body for funding, upon approval by the county election commission.
• Requires and purchases any supplies necessary for the operation of the election commission office and the conduction of all elections.
• Maintains all campaign disclosure records.
• Conducts instruction class for poll workers or designation of another qualified person to conduct such class.

The Administrator of Elections works for the County Election Commission and reports directly to the chairman.
