Mailee Taylor, a senior at White County High School, is a dedicated member of the Warrior Archery team. With six years of experience under her belt, Taylor has not only honed her shooting skills but has also transformed her high school experience into one filled with camaraderie and personal growth.

Taylor’s journey in archery began in middle school.

“I wanted to do a sport, but I just didn’t have really an interest in it,” she said.

After hearing about archery, she decided to give it a shot—and it turned out to be a decision that would shape her high school years and fill them with close-knit bonds that will follow her beyond the halls of White County High School.

“It became like a second family,” she said.

Although she doesn’t participate in other sports or activities, her commitment to archery has provided her with a sense of purpose and belonging.

“It’s taught me a lot about responsibility and working with others,” Taylor explained, proving that as a captain on the team, she has embraced the leadership opportunities that come with the role.

Looking ahead, Taylor plans to attend Vol State Community College to pursue a degree in pre-education that she hopes to follow up with a bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Tech, with aspirations of becoming an art teacher. While she is unsure of what the future holds for her in archery, she remains supportive of her teammates.

“I would tell middle schoolers to give it a try, even if you’re not good at it,” she said. “You’ll really be missing out if you don’t —it’s more fun than you think.”

Despite the team’s success at the state level, Taylor won’t be competing at nationals this year because of other obligations, but she encourages her fellow team members, especially the sophomores and juniors, to cherish their time in the sport.

“Enjoy it while you can,” she advised, reflecting on her own experiences.

Warrior Archery Coach Mickye Steele praised Taylor’s contributions to the team.

“Mailee joined our team as a 6th grader,” Steele said. “She’s my quiet, shy archer. Her bright smile and never-give-up attitude add joy to our team.”

As Taylor prepares for graduation, she expresses her willingness to assist the team in the future if needed. Her journey in archery may be coming to an end, but her impact on the Warriors will surely be felt for years to come.
