Director of schools discusses excellent grades on Tennessee State Report Card

Posted

Kurt Dronebarger, White County director of schools, has informed school board members that all eight of the county’s schools have received A’s or B’s on the 2023-2024 Tennessee State Report Card. Additionally, four schools – Cassville Elementary, Doyle Elementary, Findlay Elementary, and Northfield Elementary – were named Reward Schools.

During the Jan. 9, meeting, Dronebarger stated high letter grades on the Tennessee State Report Card indicate all White County Schools are performing at or above expectations on several fronts. White County students are meeting or exceeding grade-level standards on state assessments. White County students, especially those with high needs, are showing progress from one year to the next. Students are prepared for success after high school as White County High School received an A letter grade due, in part, to their focus on college and career readiness.

For the schools named as Reward Schools, they were recognized based on performance across several indicators of student success: academic achievement, student growth, attendance rates, and English Language acquisition. All four of White County’s Reward Schools showed significant improvement compared to the 2022-2023 school year.

Dronebarger also told board members, in light of schools being closed the following day due to the incoming winter storm, that the district would have seven more snow days available to use after the week’s three closures (Monday, Tuesday, Friday). He also said engineers were looking into what it would take to add six classrooms to Doyle Elementary School, and the district is looking into improvements to the Culinary Arts program at the high school.

The next meeting of White County School Board is scheduled for 6 p.m., Feb. 13, at Findlay Elementary School. Meetings are open to the public and are streamed live via Warrior Media. Members of the public who would like to be recognized to speak at a school board meeting should contact the Board of Education or their district board member prior to the meeting.
