At approximately 5:40 p.m., July 2, 2021, an incident occurred at Peacock Gas Station and Convenience Store, at 315 E. Bockman Way, in Sparta, adjacent to the post office, that caused the gas pumps to explode resulting in massive damage.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that an individual was reportedly being pursued by law enforcement officials, and, as the individual was fleeing law enforcement, the individual ran into the gas pumps at Peacock Gas Station, causing them to erupt in flames.
Emergency services personnel are on the scene at this time. No official report of injuries have yet been confirmed.
