Kyle Goff has been appointed to fill the vacancy on White County Board of Commissioners that was left vacant by the resignation of Bobby McCulley, of District 7, earlier this year.

During the March 15, 2021, meeting of the full court, chairman Stanley Neal opened the floor to the remaining 13 commissioners for nominations for the position.

Five individuals were nominated for the position: Andy Davis, Larry Daniels, Daniel McCulley, Charlie Tollison, and Kyle Goff.

“We will vote for the nominees by last name, and if we don’t have seven votes for someone, the lowest number person will come off the list, and we will vote again,” Neal told the sitting commissioners, of which only Terry Alley was absent. “We will follow this process until we have seven votes for someone.”

After an initial roll-call vote, Goff received the required seven votes to be appointed to the vacant seat, with Davis receiving two votes and the other candidates receiving one vote each.

“I know Kyle Goff, and he will do a very good job for White County. Any of the other four that were nominated would also do a good job for White County,” Neal said about Goff joining him in representing District 7. “I feel very relieved that when I decide not to run again, White County will be in good shape if any of these gentlemen, including Kyle, replaces me.”

Goff, whose roots are deep in the community, having been born and raised in White County and a graduate of White County High School, said he is thankful for the opportunity to serve District 7 and the county as a whole.

“My commitment to this community is one of the major commitments in my life,” he said. “Just as I do with my position at the YMCA or my activity with the Rotary Club of Sparta, I want to use this position as an extension of myself to serve.”

Goff said he had two reasons to pursue a seat on the commission board. The first is to serve and enhance the community, while the second is to provide leadership and represent his constituents.

“I come in without a lot of legislative knowledge and certainly have a lot to learn, but I do have a set of values and principles that I can leverage to add to the chemistry and character of this commission right away,” he said. “I hope to spend the next 18 months educating myself on the position so I can also add to the competency of the commission as well. I cannot wait to get to work.”
