Golf team is state bound

After a two-hour rain delay, on May 6, the White County Middle School girls’ golf team took to the greens in the sectional tournament.

“After nine holes, our players were fifth, sixth, and seventh individually and tied for second as a team,” coach Farrah Griffith said.

As the girls took to the rain-soaked back half of the course, they were one stroke behind Lake Forest Middle School, the four-time sectional winners. However, Griffith said they didn’t let the conditions or their positions affect the way they attacked the course.

“Our girls played well on the back despite the wet conditions on the course,” she said.

After 18 holes had been played, the Warriorettes had surpassed the four-time champions and ended with a nine-stroke victory to win sectionals and earn a place in the state tournament that was held May 14.

“In addition to winning the tournament as a team, all three of our girls finished in the top seven, with two of them being tournament medalists,” Griffith said.

Elrod came in at third overall with a +19 score, while Golden was fifth with a +27 score and Heady finished tied for seventh at +29.

The TMSGA State Tournament was played at Harpeth Hills.
