Jobless rates decrease in White and Van Buren counties

Unemployment down in a majority of Tennessee counties

 White and Van Buren counties saw a decrease in unemployment in October 2021 from the figures released in September 2021.

White County’s jobless rate for October was 3.2 percent, down slightly from 3.3 percent, in September.

Van Buren County’s unemployment rate for October was 4.1 percent, which was less than the 4.7 percent figure for September.

In the surrounding area, Putnam County’s October figure stayed the same as September, which was 3.1 percent. Warren County decreased from 4.1 percent, in September, to 4 percent, in October. Cumberland County dropped from 3.8 percent, in September, to 3.7 percent, in October. DeKalb County’s October unemployment numbers was 3.7 percent, down from 4 percent, in September.

Statewide, unemployment rates decreased in 65 counties during October, while numbers remained the same in 20 counties and increased in 10 counties.

 Ninety-three counties reported October jobless numbers lower than 5 percent, and two counties had unemployment rates slightly higher than 5 percent.

 The employment situation also improved nationally. The United States unemployment rate for October was 4.6 percent, down 0.2 of a percentage point from the previous month.
