Mildred Faye Williams Jones, 85, of Crossville, formerly of Sparta, passed away Sept. 9, 2023, at Hospice of Cumberland County.
Mildred was born Dec. 5, 1937, in Sparta, to Willard Ezra and Mary Lou Hickey Williams.
Mildred was a career banker and entrepreneur. She loved life, family, flower gardening, and decorating. She was a very active person, always on the go. As a matter of fact, some of her grandchildren called her “Dooie” because she was always doing something. She was a perfectionist in every aspect of her life and instilled that confidence in everyone around her. One of her favorite sayings and routine advice was “hang tough.” She was literally the rock of our world. As matriarch of the family, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to so many, she will be missed but never forgotten.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Key.
Surviving family members left to cherish her memory include her husband, Robert Earl “Bob” Jones; two sons, James G. “Gordy” (Mary) Wallace III, Rob (Anita) Jones; two daughters, Janet Leigh “Jan” (Dennis) Minnick, Shauna Newman; grandchildren, Jordan Harris, Jenna (Kevin) Yates, Mia Jones, Jason (Tammy) Wallace, Micki Freeland, Melissa (Michael) Minnear, Jimmy Wallace; and great-grandchildren, Layne, Hunter, Chance, Lance, Aleese, J.G., Allison, Zack, Conlon, Madeline, Allison, Jack, and Stetson.
Funeral service was 1 p.m., Sept. 11, 2023, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Cemetery. Tim Bumbalough officiated.
Jason Wallace, Jimmy Wallace, J.G. Wallace, Zack Minnear, Michael Minnear, and Kevin Yates served as pallbearers..
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
