The college a student chooses to commit to is an important step in their journey to adulthood, and White County High School has just honored their seniors that have taken those first steps. On May 6, a Senior Signing event was hosted to give recognition to the many universities that White County students have placed trust in for their future.
Suzanne Rushing, the college advisor for WCHS, listed the names of students under the university of their choosing. Around 30 colleges had students choosing them for their post-secondary education. Tennessee Technological University had the most students joining, but other campuses had some large support, too.
The TCAT facilities in the area, such as Livingston, McMinnville, and Crossville, had nearly two dozen students committing to them. TCAT is an institution that focuses on technical training and industry, with careers in the workforce right out of college being a high priority.
University of Tennessee, split across its Knoxville and Chattanooga campuses, had a good handful of students swearing to it. Volunteer State Community College also had over a dozen students.
Overall, over 100 students made their commitment during the event. There were some students, however, that swore to a different calling rather than a college.
Three graduates had signed on for the military after graduation: Eric Johnson for the Navy, Jayden Keith for the Army, and Truman Wright for the Army..
There was also one graduate, James “J.J.” Martin, who signed on to immediately join the workforce directly after graduation. Martin will be working to make custom car wraps, and he already has his plan set out for him after school.
All these students signed a banner recognizing their commitment to post-graduation life.
