State Senator Paul Bailey (R-Sparta) was reappointed chairman of the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee, on Jan. 12. This announcement was made by Lt. Governor Randy McNally during the organizational session on the Senate floor.

McNally praised Bailey for his insight and leadership in the Commerce Committee.

“Paul Bailey is a business owner and a conservative,” said McNally. “He intimately understands the needs of entrepreneurs and employers as well as workers and wage earners. He has done an excellent job as chairman and I am proud to reappoint him.”

The Commerce and Labor Committee hears legislation dealing with economic development, banking, business, insurance, communications, consumer affairs, occupational licensing and employment matters.  Due to the scope of legislation considered there, it is one of the most powerful committees in the General Assembly.

"I am very honored to be selected as the chairman of this committee,” said Senator Bailey.  “It is important that Tennessee continues to have a pro-business climate that is attractive for bringing new jobs to the state. Even in the face of a global pandemic, Tennessee saw many new businesses relocate to the state or expand their existing operations, and that is because of our commitment to being business-friendly. I am dedicated to ensuring Tennessee remains a great state to do business, and look forward to continuing in this role.”

Bailey will also serve on the Senate Transportation and Safety Committee.

Senator Bailey was re-elected to Senate District 15 in November 2022 and was sworn in to office on Tuesday. He represents Cumberland, Jackson, Putnam, Smith, Van Buren and White counties in the Tennessee Senate.
