White County High School Warriorettes bested the Cumberland County Jets by a score of 56-38, on Feb, 7, and they did so by dominating all phases of the game.

The game looked like it was going to be much closer than it was, with the Warriorettes taking just a 20-16 lead at the end of the first eight minutes of play. The Jets cut that lead in half before the end of the second quarter, but the Warriorettes turned up the pressure in the second half of the game. White County outscored their visitors by 9 and 7 points in each of the final two quarters of play.

Bella Winningham went six of eleven, including two 3-pointers, and hit all but one of her free throws on her way to 18 points. Gracie Clark sank 6 free throws on top of hitting the basket from behind the arc once and adding a pair of field goals to end the night with 13 points. Senior Ava Jones netted two long balls, along with four other baskets, to add 12 points to the Warriorettes’ total. Lakelyn Grasty and Kylie Norvell each had 4 points while Kyra Fox had 3.

It wasn’t just baskets that White County dominated in, however. As a team, they pulled down 21 rebounds against the Jets. Once again, it was Winningham and Jones leading the way with six boards each with all of Jones’ coming on defense while Winningham grabbed four offensive rebounds. Clark had five rebounds while Fox and Kennedy Billings-Sullivan each had a pair of defensive boards.

In assists, it was Grasty leading the charge as she shared the ball around and ended up with four assists. Jones, Winningham, and Clark each recorded two assists to put the Warriorettes at 10 total. White County just missed the double-digit figure in steals as Jones, Winningham, and Grasty each snatched two balls from the Lady Jets. Clark and Norvell both had a steal as well.

Jones continued to stand out on defense. While she’s made a habit of recording multiple scores in each game over the past several weeks, she added four blocks to her pair of steals and six defensive rebounds.

WCHS Warriorettes are undefeated in district play and haven’t lost a home game since last year. They will host the Upperman Bees, on Feb 11, in what could be the battle for the post season’s top seed. The Upperman team’s only district loss this season came at the hands of the Warriorettes two weeks ago.
