The WCHS Warrior Football Team beat the Warren County Pioneers last Friday night by a score of 35-6 improving their season record to 2-0. The Warriors and Pioneers exchanged TDs in the first quarter followed by a scoreless second quarter to end a very competitive first half with a score of 8-6 favoring the Warriors. However, once the second half began, it was all Warriors as they imposed their will on the host Pioneers offensively and defensively. The Warriors exploded for 20 points in the third quarter including two rushing TDs by QB, Tripp Pinion and one passing TD caught by Antonio Purvis. The Warriors would add another TD in the 4th stretching the lead to 35-6 where it would stay as the defense shut down everything the Pioneers attempted.
Once again, Tripp Pinion led the offense, rushing for 249 yards on 25 carries including 4 rushing TDs. He also completed 7 of 11 passess for an additional 58 yards with one of those being the aforementioned TD to Antonio Purvis who led all Warrior receivers with 3 catches for 24 yards and on defense, intercepted two of the Pioneer passes on the night. Demarious Dowell and AJ Hunt each recorded a sack in the game and 7 tackles between the two of them.
When asked about the game, Coach Beaty said, the team “needs to keep working on us, and getting better each week. Defense played really well and the offense finally started clicking a little better in the second half.” Coach Beaty also wanted to recognize Tucker Pinion as this week’s Scout Team Player of the Week. “Tucker was the scout team QB all week and did a great job running the Wing T and emulating Warren County’s QB play.”
