The White County High School Warriors defeated the Stone Memorial Panthers with a score of 28-12, on Sept. 12. The game, originally scheduled for Sept. 13, was moved up because of forecasts of inclement weather, but that didn’t dampen the Warriors’ spirits as they sought retribution after their 2023 loss to the Panthers.
From the opening whistle, White County made it clear they were prepared to turn the tables. The Warriors showcased a powerful ground game, accumulating a remarkable 219 rushing yards. Leading the charge was Tripp Pinion, who continued his standout season with an impressive performance. Pinion rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown on just 13 carries, while also throwing for 227 yards and two more touchdowns. Sept. 12 marked his fifth consecutive game with over 100 rushing yards.
Pinion’s aerial attack was notably highlighted by Darvon Richmond, who caught six passes for 137 yards, providing a significant boost to the Warriors’ offensive game. The team’s offensive strategy proved effective as they consistently moved the ball down the field, leaving the Panthers struggling to keep pace.
Defensively, White County was relentless, sacking the Stone Memorial quarterback seven times. Gage Stephenson and Lex Winfree were particularly disruptive, combining for six sacks and ensuring the Panthers’ offense was never able to find its rhythm. Stephenson also contributed on the defensive end with an interception and was credited with a total of six tackles.
The Warriors’ victory improved their season record to 3-1, while Stone Memorial fell to 2-2. However, the White County will have to stay focused as they take on Upperman, who has yet to score less than 31 points in a game this season, for homecoming on Sept. 20.
