Warriors’ win-streak ends

Posted

White County High School baseball team saw their four-game winning streak come to an end, on April 8, when they lost to the Cumberland County Jets by a score of 5-3.

The Warriors took the lead when they scored a single run in the bottom of the second inning, but the Jets answered right back tying it up in the third. White County scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and were sitting on a nice 3-1 lead. But then the fifth inning, the Jets strung some hits together and got four runners across the plate. With no more scoring from either team in the last two-and-a half-innings, that’s how the game ended: Jets 5, Warriors 3.

Austin Pionke started the game on the mound and gave up just two hits while striking out two of the 11 batters he faced. Pionke has been consistent on the mound for the Warriors giving up no more than two walks in his last eight appearances. It wasn’t just his pitching that kept White County in the game, however. Pionke went 2-for-4 at the plate and had four stolen bases on the night.

Cole Gentry and Eli Smith also picked up hits while Griffin Adams and Kolt Norris were credited with the Warriors’ RBIs. Along with Pionke’s four stolen bases, Smith, Wyatt Dilts, and Kason Seal were smart on the basepaths to push the Warriors total stolen bases to seven.

Trenton Wilson took the loss for White County, giving up four earned runs on six hits and two walks. Wilson did record three strikeouts while facing 20 batters.
