WCHS Cadets of the Month

On the final Wednesday of the month, White County High School JROTC conducted what Lieutenant Colonel Aaron Johnson described as a hard-fought Cadet of the Month selection board.

After the results were tallied, Cadet Private First Class Trever Walker was announced as the winner for the title of first-year Cadet of the Month. LTC Johnson said that Cadet Walker has been highly involved in the JROTC program since joining the class at the beginning of the 2023-24 school year.

“He is a competing member of the JROTC Raider Team and a rising member of the JRTOC JV Color Guard,” Johnson said about the first year Cadet who is quite obviously doing more than just showing up for class.

Cadet Staff Sergeant Christen Downy won this month’s award for the second-year Cadet.

“Cadet Dowdy is the first WCHS JROTC Cadet to win the Cadet of the Month three times since starting the competition during the 2022-2023 school year,” Johnson said, explaining that Dowdy takes his responsibilities as a member of the JROTC program very seriously. “Cadet Dowdy serves as a Squad Leader in Alpha Company and is an active member on the JROTC Raider Team, Color Guard, and Rifle Marksmanship Team.”

“We are blessed to have such amazing Cadets in JROTC,” Johnson said about both Cadets chosen for this month’s awards, “and we look forward to what the future holds for these young men.”
