White County High School has been recognized as a FAFSA Champion School for the 2024-25 academic year, joining 157 other schools across Tennessee in celebrating outstanding efforts to assist students in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Tennessee’s efforts have paid off, as the state now ranks #1 in the nation for FAFSA completion, according to the National College Attainment Network (NCAN). Tennessee achieved a 75.7% FAFSA completion rate among Tennessee Promise applicants—its highest ever—surpassing the previous record of 75.6% set by the Class of 2020. This milestone makes Tennessee the national leader in FAFSA completion, reflecting the effectiveness of statewide initiatives to increase access to higher education.

Last week, the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) announced the list of 158 schools that excelled in FAFSA completion and improvement with Dr. Steven Gentile, THEC Executive Director praising those recognized.

“This recognition reflects the hard work of our schools, counselors, and communities across the state,” Gentile said. “Being number one in the nation shows what’s possible when we prioritize student access to financial aid and higher education.”

To be named as a FAFSA Champion school, schools must demonstrate either a 90 percent or higher FAFSA completion rate or significant year-over-year growth of at least 5 percent. For White County High School, it was the latter that qualified them for this year’s recognition.

“We went up 6% from last year, ending at 88.1%! I am super proud of WCHS, and I contribute this to the hard work of Mrs. Suzanne Rushing, our College Counselor,” principal Greg Wilson said. “We have a great staff and great kids. We are going to continue our focus of loving kids, building relationships, and helping students see their futures. I hope that they are stay Warrior Proud!”
