In 2021, TVA launched a program called the “Energy Right School Uplift Program” in the hopes to invest in the futures of our students’ lives by offering energy training and grants that not only reduce energy costs but improves the quality of the learning environment across the Valley.
White County High School has been involved with this program since the beginning of the school year, completing various initiatives that help conserve energy at the school, teaches students and faculty about smart energy savings, and partners with community organizations to provide outreach regarding energy conservation and STEM.
On Feb. 11, White County High School celebrated its basketball homecoming. On this night, students were given LED light bulbs that were provided by TVA to help spread awareness about making more efficient decisions when it comes to energy savings. LED bulbs use up to 90 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs, as well as last up to 25 times longer. By making this simple switch, homeowners can save more money, while being more energy conscientious. Also, winning projects from the 2024-2025 WCHS Science Expo were on display for students and families to see during homecoming night. The science department at the high school has emphasized a greater importance on scientific research and discovering a passion for STEM overall. By displaying these projects, it was the goal to show the community the great work of WCHS students and to allow STEM its moment in the sun during a night that brings everyone together.
Overall winners from the 2024-2025 WCHS Science Expo:
1st place-Alivia Hart
2nd place-Jackson Burch
3rd place-Mason LaLonde & Austin Pionke
