The White County High School Warriorettes’ soccer team had a week filled with highs and lows, showcasing their growth and determination on the field. Under the guidance of head coach Madison Mason, the girls celebrated a strong victory followed by a challenging match against a tough opponent.

On Aug. 27, the Warriorettes faced Middle Tennessee Christian and emerged triumphant with a final score of 5-2.

“The girls exhibited great confidence and aggression, and our passing was noticeably improved on the field,” Mason said.

Highlighting the standout players, Mason expressed her pride in junior Katie Blakeman who scored an impressive hat trick.

“Katie’s performance was phenomenal. Her three goals were a key factor in our victory,” Mason said, and then talked about the other two scorers for the night saying that Kayce Wright also contributed with a goal, while freshman Kaydence Redmon made her mark by scoring her first goal of the season. “It was exciting to see Kaydence find the back of the net.”

Despite the heat, the Warriorettes showed resilience and determination throughout the match.

“I am incredibly proud of how the girls played, especially considering the conditions,” Mason remarked. “They fought hard until the very end, and it’s wonderful to witness our team chemistry growing stronger.”

Mason added a special shout out to center back defender Autumn Birdwell whose speed she said was pivotal in saving the team during critical moments of the game.

However, the joy of victory was followed by a tough loss, on Aug. 29, when the Warriorettes faced DeKalb County and lost 5-1, despite holding the Lady Tigers to just one goal in the first half.

“This year is going to be more about overcoming mental barriers than I realized,” Mason said. “The girls have to believe they are winners as much as I believe in them to be successful.”
