WCMS soccer loses tough match against Algood

The Warriors were in action on April 19th as they took on Algood Middle School in the penultimate match of the regular season.

The Warriors were coming off their 3rd straight loss and were looking to get a favorable result against the second ranked team in the conference. From the first whistle the Warriors looked to apply pressure against the opposition and try to force a mistake. After four minutes had gone in the first half, Algood sent a long ball into the box which took a massive bounce over the keeper for the first goal of the match.

The Warriors would keep applying pressure and Braxton Simmons would chase down a through ball but would get shoved off the ball by an Algood defender which resulted in a yellow card. The two teams would continue to battle before an Algood midfielder got a yellow card for pulling Gabriel Duarte off the ball. Algood would score one more goal to make the half-time score 2-0.

The second half continued just like the first half. The teams would battle for each and every ball before Brenam Sandlin would pick up a yellow card for shoving an Algood player off the ball. Algood would score one open play goal before the Warriors would concede two unfortunate own goals to make the final score 5-0.

“I thought we played well and put the pressure on Algood, but we just couldn’t find that finishing touch,” said Warrior Coach Justin Rittenberry.

The loss saw White County fall to 3-5-1 and sit in 7th place in the conference.
