WCMS soccer team struggles in a pair of tough matches

The White County Middle School soccer team recently faced a challenging stretch of games, battling against Prescott and Avery Trace in their latest home matches.

In their match against Prescott, on April 7, the WCMS Warriors struggled, suffering a 6-0 defeat. The team managed only two shots on goal, with one shot each coming from Brenam Sandlin and Lane Rogers. Despite the score, goalkeeper Cager Swift had a strong outing, making 12 saves to keep the score from ballooning even further.

The following match, on April 11, against Avery Trace, saw a similar outcome, with the Warriors losing 8-1. In this game, White County improved their offensive efforts, registering four shots on goal. Brenam Sandlin led the charge with two shots, while Micah Hogg and Braxton Jones each contributed one. Sandlin also managed to score the team’s only goal, converting a penalty kick. Cager Swift again showcased his strong goalkeeping skills, recording 13 saves throughout the match.

“We’ve had a tough run of matches where we have not been playing our best soccer. The hard work and effort against Avery Trace in the first half was exactly what we need heading into the last four matches of the regular season,” head coach Justin Rittenberry reflected on the week’s games. “My hope is that the boys can continue to put the work in over the next couple of weeks and get some much-needed momentum heading into the playoffs.”
