WCMS softball advances to 12-1 overall, 9-1 in district

The White County Middle School softball team recently faced off against the team from South Cumberland. The Warriorettes dominated the Rebels, beating them 16-0 in three innings of play.

Abbi Hutson led the game off with a walk, followed by A.K.. Wallace and Annie Burrier both reaching base due to Rebel errors. Addison Finley grounded out to the second baseman but recorded her first of four RBIs on the night when Wallace scored on the play. Burrier scored on a passed ball, and the Warriorettes led 3-0 after one inning of play.

White County started off the second inning with a base hit from Jordan Wright. Hutson doubled, earning an RBI as Wright came home. Wallace followed with another double RBI, and the Warriorettes led 5-0 with two outs in the top of the second. The next three hitters, Addison Finley, Bianca Villano, and Blakelyn Cope, each hit hard singles, and then Treeah Powell laced one over the South Cumberland third baseman to score two more runs and expand the lead to 10-0 after two innings of play.

The Warriorettes followed the pattern by scoring six more runs in the top of the third. Hutson and Wallace both got on base for the third time. Annie Burrier followed with a double that scored two as Hutson and Wallace each crossed the plate for the third time. Addison Finley recorded her fourth RBI with a laser shot into left field. Villano, Cope, Powell, and Jordan Wright finished the inning with hard hit balls to push the score to 16-0.

Alli Beth Stebing was the winning pitcher, throwing a shutout by only giving up one hit and walks while striking out three.

“The girls played a complete game,” head coach Gregg Segraves said after the game. “We’re hoping to really get hot as we get closer to the district tournament. “

District tournament starts April 28.
