White County Middle School Warriorettes kicked off their softball season with a strong performance followed by a close contest, leaving them with a record of 1-1 after the first two games.

In their season opener against North Cumberland, on March 4, the WCMS Warriorettes secured a decisive 13-1 win. Annie Burrier took the mound as the winning pitcher, recording four strikeouts and only one hit allowed. She faced minimal trouble, issuing three walks but no earned runs, as she showed command from the circle throughout the entire game.

The offensive efforts were led by Abbie Hutson, who crossed home plate three times and recorded two hits along with two stolen bases. A.K. Wallace contributed with two runs, two hits, and two RBIs, while Burrier added to the score with a double and an RBI. Treeah Powell matched Hutson’s output with two runs and two hits, and Addie Finley also made her mark with a double and an RBI. Jordan Wright rounded out the scoring with two runs, two hits, and two RBIs, showcasing a well-rounded team effort.

In their second game, this one against Warren County, the Warriorettes faced a tougher challenge, falling just short in a nail-biter with a final score of 2-1. Allie Beth Stebing pitched a stellar game, allowing only one earned run and striking out seven batters while giving up just one hit. Despite Stebing’s strong performance, the Warriorettes struggled offensively, managing only two hits, both recorded in the first inning. Hutson led off the game with a single and a stolen base, while Burrier drove her in for the team’s sole run.

“We’ve got to improve our base running. We continue to make mental mistakes, but all that can be easily corrected,” Coach Gregg Segraves said. “These girls love the game of softball, and I couldn’t be more proud of their dedication and work ethic.”
