The White County High School Warriors are facing challenging times on the diamond, suffering two consecutive defeats that extend their losing streak to four games.
On April 11, the Warriors experienced their most significant loss since early March, falling to the Cookeville Cavaliers with a score of 11-1. The game marked a tough outing for the team, which dropped to an 8-11 record. Despite the lopsided score, five Warriors stepped up to record hits, with Austin Pionke leading the way, going 1-for-2 with one RBI.
On the mound, Wyatt Dilts took the loss, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing 2 hits and 2 runs. Austin Pionke also saw action on the mound, giving up three hits and one earned run in one inning of work. Kaden Seibers rounded out the pitching efforts, throwing 2.1 innings and yielding four hits and four earned runs.
The Warriors were unable to turn the tide, on April 14, as they faced the Livingston Academy Wildcats, suffering an 8-3 loss. This loss marked their fourth straight, dropping White County’s record to 8-12. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning, one in the second, and another in the third. The Warriors did respond with a promising three-run fourth inning, thanks to contributions from Pionke, Eli Smith, and Cole Gentry, but it wasn’t enough.
Errors proved costly for the Warriors, as they committed five in the game, giving the Wildcats too many extra chances to extend their lead. Pionke continued to shine, not only recording the lone hit for White County but also stealing three bases. Smith, Gentry, and Will Thomas each added a stolen base to their efforts.
Trenton Williams pitched 5.1 innings, taking the loss on the mound while giving up 8 hits and 6 runs, four of which were earned. Dilts again saw action, facing five batters and allowing 2 hits and 2 runs, with one earned.
